Volvo introduces a new fully electrically-powered truck --- ‘Volvo FE Electric’
The electric line-up of Swedish group Volvo Trucks has got a new addition, with the company having recently unveiled an all-electric garbage truck called the ‘Volvo FE Electric.’
In unveiling the ‘Volvo FE Electric’ truck, Volvo Trucks has announced that its electric trucks will hit the roads in 2018. The unveiling of the new all-electric garbage truck comes within a month of the April unveiling of the 16-tonne ‘Volvo FL Electric.’
According to the information shared by Volvo, the new ‘Volvo FE Electric’ fully electrically-powered truck, with GVW 27 tonnes, has been designed for distribution and refuse collection in urban areas, as well as other applications.
The ‘Volvo FE Electric’ truck is equipped with 200-300 kWh lithium-ion batteries, and two electric motors with 370 kW max power. The truck has a Volvo 2-speed transmission, and can offer a range of up to 200 km. The body of the truck has been developed by Volvo Trucks together with refuse collection bodybuilder, Faun.
Revealing that the ‘Volvo FE Electric’ truck is being built for deployment in Germany’s second-biggest city, Hamburg, in “early 2019,” Volvo Trucks’ President Claes Nilsson said at the truck’s unveiling that the company now has “a comprehensive range of electrically powered trucks for city operations.” Nilsson also added that the unveiling of the ‘Volvo FE Electric’ marks “yet another strategic step forward in the development of our total offer in electrified transport solutions.”
