Target to deploy over 600 chargers in partnership with Electrify America, Tesla and ChargePoint
In a recent announcement, U.S. retailer Target has revealed that it is teaming up with Electrify America, Tesla and ChargePoint, for deploying “more than 600 chargers” at “over 100 stores” across the country.
The announcement of Target’s partnership with Electrify America, Tesla and ChargePoint has come close on the heels of a last-week disclosure by its rival Walmart that it is partnering with Electrify America for the deployment of hundreds of electric-vehicle (EV) charging stations at its stores.
With regard to its EV charging station program, Target said that it has plans underway for “additional expansion plans in 2018.” Target had previously partnered with Tesla for piloting the Supercharger EV charging stations, which enable EVs to get charged in “shorter-than-normal charging times.”
About Target’s move to partner with Electrify America, Tesla and ChargePoint for installing more than 600 chargers at its stores, John Leisen -- Target’s VP of Property Management -- said the move will enable the retailer to accelerate its efforts for the installation of new charging stations at the Target stores across the country.
Leisen further added that the partnership will give Target “an opportunity to work with industry-leading partners to bring a more convenient shopping experience to guests,” especially since the retailer is already keen on designing lower-carbon solutions throughout its entire operation.
