Scottish government increases funding to schemes supporting its EV and A9 ambitions
In a recent announcement, the Scottish government has revealed that it will provide more funds to schemes which support its electric vehicle (EV) ambitions and the Electric A9 project.
The announcement implies that the Scottish government is increasing its funding to schemes which will potentially help it to achieve its targeted phasing out of the requirement for new petrol- and diesel-powered vehicles by the year 2032.
In accordance with the announcement, the government has already increased its overall budgetary funds for the Low Carbon Transport Loan scheme from £8 million to £20 million for 2018-19. The scheme chiefly promotes the switchover to EVs by consumers as well as businesses.
In addition to the increased budget for the Low Carbon Transport Loan, the government has also increased the ‘Switched on Fleets’ fund from £1.2 million to £4.8 million.
Scottish Transport Minister Humza Yousaf has revealed that some schemes which have received increased funding support the government’s Electric A9 project, aimed at improving EV charging infrastructure on the longest trunk road in Scotland.
Moreover, along with the increased funding to EV-focused schemes, the government is also encouraging a greater use of EVs in urban areas by setting up a Switched on Towns and the Cities Challenge Fund.
