New ‘Smart Solar Charging’ station in the Netherlands enables EVs to charge on sunlight day and night
A ‘Smart Solar Charging’ project undertaken in the Netherlands now allows electric cars to get charged at a universal charging station on sunlight day and night. The project has been undertaken in Utrecht, by LomboXnet and a number of other local partners.
Under the ‘Smart Solar Charging’ project, LomboXnet and its partners added US electric vehicle maker Tesla’s Powerpacks energy storage systems to a universal charging station with solar arrays. The move has paved the way for local owners of EV to charge their vehicles on sunlight day or night.
The new charging station, which is part of the ‘Smart Solar Charging’ project, has put the spotlight on the fact that the solar products and energy storage systems deployed by Tesla on its own charging network are beneficial not only for the company’s electric vehicles (EVs), but also for all other electric cars.
At the new charging station in the Netherlands, 20 charging points have been connected to a 400kW/800kWh Tesla Powerpack battery system and a solar array comprising 200 panels.
EV owners can bring their vehicles to the new charging station to charge them on sunlight during the day. And, with the excess solar power getting stored in Tesla’s battery packs, EV can also get charged at night as the Tesla Powerpacks feed the solar power back to the charging station.
