Fiat-Chrysler is accelerating its EV programs, “going after Tesla”
In a recent announcement, Fiat-Chrysler (FCA) has said that the company is significantly accelerating its electric vehicle (EV) programs, and is “going after Tesla” with their own luxury brands. The announcement implies that FCA will first be focusing its electrification efforts on its expensive luxury vehicles, in an attempt to challenge Tesla Motors.
The announcement was made by Tim Kuniskis -- the Head of FCA’s two luxury brands, Alfa Romeo and Maserati -- during the course of an NBCNews interview which was released this week.
Despite the fact that FCA has thus far not been leading the electrification efforts in the automobile industry, Kuniskis said in the interview that “everything” is getting electrified at FCA.
Kuniskis further asserted: “Look at our product portfolio and you see we’re going after Tesla.” The statement was evidently made in reference to the latest update of the FCA product line-up which includes a number of EVs scheduled for launch in the coming years.
With FCA’s most notable electrification efforts till now being the Fiat e500 and the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid van, the latest FCA product line-up update will bring the maximum number of EV additions to the Maserati brands, which will boast the addition of 4 all-electric vehicles by the year 2022.
