Elon Musk on Tesla Semi spotting in Arkansas: The electric truck was driven “across the country alone”
In response to recent reports about the Tesla Semi electric truck prototype having been spotted in Arkansas, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has commented that the truck was driven “across the country alone.”
Musk’s comments have come against the backdrop of the fact that the Tesla Semi electric truck prototype recently showed up at J.B. Hunt in Arkansas, nearly 2,000 miles away from the automaker’s home state of California.
The spotting of the Tesla Semi in Arkansas was apparently a part of the test program which the automaker commenced for the electric truck prototype in early 2018. To initiate the test program, the Semi undertook its first cargo trip when it carried battery packs from Gigafactory 1 to Fremont factory. Thereafter, a grey-coloured Semi was spotted quite a few times around the Midwest.
The first spotting of the Tesla Semi, after the cargo trip, was in St-Louis, where the truck showed up at Budweiser-maker Anheuser-Busch, the brewer that ordered 40 Tesla Semi trucks in 2017. After that, the Semi was also spotted in Oklahoma, then in Texas, and again in California in April 2018.
With the Tesla Semi now reaching up to Arkansas, Musk jokingly said that the truck made it across the US with only the Tesla Supercharger network and a 1,000-mile long extension cord, which evidently refers to an extension cord system used by Tesla for charging the prototype at its regular charging stations.
