The Boring Company releases first image of gantry for Chicago ‘Loop’
The Boring Company has recently released the first image of the gantry which it is developing for the ‘Loop’ high-speed underground public transportation system in Chicago.
The contract for building the ‘Loop’ transit system in Chicago was won by The Boring Company -- a young California-based startup owned by Elon Musk -- a few weeks back. The transit system will significantly reduce the commuting time between the O-Hare airport and Chicago downtown.
The infrastructure recently released by The Boring Company for Chicago’s ‘Loop’ shows that the concrete foundation on which the gantry has been set by the company apparently has a rail in the middle. For the deployment of the infrastructure, the company will have to dig tunnels to run the transport system underground.
In its description of the ‘Loop’ transit system in Chicago, The Boring Company has mentioned on its website that the high-speed underground transport system will facilitate transportation of passengers “on autonomous electric skates traveling at 125-150 miles per hour.” The company has also added that “Electric skates will carry between 8 and 16 passengers, or a single passenger vehicle.”
For the completion of the Chicago ‘Loop,’ Elon Musk has given a very aggressive timeline of “18 to 24 months.” However, he also said that the completion could take longer than the target timeline, but it will “unlikely” take more than 3 years.
