Audi: Newly-unveiled PB 18 e-tron prototype serves as “a preview for the next decade”
At Pebble Beach Automotive Week in Monterey, California, on Thursday, a stunning electric supercar prototype was unveiled by German automaker Audi. The prototype is called ‘Audi PB 18 e-tron.’
In unveiling the PB 18 e-tron concept car, Audi said that the vehicle essentially serves as “a preview for the next decade” because it is one of the company’s noteworthy electric cars in “a new family of visionary automobiles.”
Since Audi has unveiled only the electric supercar prototype, the actual vehicle is not expected to be available at dealerships anytime in the near future. As of now, Audi is focused on its e-tron quattro electric production SUV, which will be officially launched by the automaker in September 2018.
Nonetheless, the newly-unveiled PB 18 e-tron prototype appears to possess the characteristics of an ultra-luxury supercar with a sleek design, although with an electric powertrain. The vehicle is equipped with a powerful battery and three electric motors, which give it the ability to speed up from 0-100 kilometers per hour (62.1 miles per hour) in roughly 2 seconds. On a full charge, the vehicle has a 500 km (310 miles) range.
Boasting an interior design which empowers track driving, the PB 18 e-tron comes with an 800-volt connection to enable a full charge in 15 minutes. Some of the other notable features of the vehicle include 22-inch wheels, carbon disc brakes, laser high beams, and adaptive magnetic ride shock absorbers.
