Amazon is purchasing all-electric van fleet from Mercedes-Benz
With electric powertrains increasingly being considered by several logistics firms worldwide for their delivery vehicles, Amazon is planning to go onboard with the purchase of an all-electric van fleet from German automaker Mercedes-Benz.
About the fleet of all-electric vans being purchased by Amazon, Mercedes-Benz has revealed in a press release that the fleet will comprise the 2017-launched ‘eVito’ mid-size van, which is an electrified version of the automaker’s Vito van.
According to the information shared by Mercedes-Benz, the all-electric eVito van is equipped with a 41.4 kWh battery pack, and can offer a range of “around 150 km” (93 miles). The van has an 84 kW electric motor, and its top speed can reach up to 120 km/h (74 mph).
The purchase of a fleet of all-electric vans by Amazon will mark one of the biggest deployments of new electric vans produced by Mercedes-Benz. The automaker has earlier deployed a fleet of 1,500 all-electric vans for Hermes, the largest independent logistics company in Germany.
With regard to Amazon’s purchase of Mercedes-Benz’s all-electric van fleet, the automaker said in the press release: “By the end of the year, Amazon Logistics will have 100 eVitos in its fleet at its Bochum and Dusseldorf locations.”
